U-M Preconfigured Sophos Anti-Virus (for Mac OS X) Installation— Summary

1. Download the U-M installer (50 MB) from the Blue Disc web site. On that site, first select the Mac OS operating system, then click the download link for Sophos Anti-Virus.
2. Before installing Sophos, uninstall any existing anti-virus software on your Macintosh to prevent conflicts. If you are replacing an earlier version of Sophos (particularly the initial 4.6.x build available from mid-January 2006 until noon 06 March 2006), be sure to uninstall the earlier version first (How to Uninstall Sophos)
3. Install Sophos Anti-Virus. U-M's installer installs the Sophos Anti-Virus software for you.
4. Run AutoUpdate. This will get you the most current set of virus definitions.
5. Set preferences. We recommend that you set preferences as described in the appropriate "Installing and Setting Preferences for Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X" document above for the version of SAV you are installing. Doing so will ensure the strongest level of protection and ease the trouble-shooting process, should the need arise.
6. Scan your computer for viruses.
